The Glorious Saturn V continued...

To continue material on the Saturn V, this is a clip that posted some time ago on Vimeo. It has over a million plays and was featured as a staff favorite. This is Apollo 11, Camera E-8..

The audio is narration I did to explain aspects of the clip. Since it is slow motion it isn't possible to include natural sound. While this camera is on the Saturn V set, it is not on the set with this narration.

The Glorious Saturn V...

We're a little over a week away from an anniversary... actually a pretty big one in manned space flight. The first Saturn V rocket was launched on November 9, 1967. Compared to launch vehicles up to that time, nothing had ever left the Earth quite like it. The first flight was a complete success (all 13 flights were successful, with some problems on Apollo 6 and 13). As part of the Cape set I've been working on a lot of footage surrounding those early days of launch complex 39, built to launch the Saturn V. And I've collected a decent amount of HD footage from various pad cameras. Here's one of my favorites... I just love the colors in this one. It is from Apollo 13, Camera E-72.

Jumping from Space...

A few weeks ago I went by and took a tour of a local distillery (Watershed Gin and Vodka are a small distillery about a mile from here) and in their lobby they had a shot of Joe Kittinger about to jump off his gondola toward Earth. I looked at it and said "That's Joe Kittinger!" They were surprised I knew what it was, but I found it interesting that they would use that image as what they call a "Watershed Moment." Well, I suppose it was. From our Mercury 6-DVD set, here is the footage from which the still image was taken:

 

Update on product availability...

Over this past summer we have been working on making several long-lead items that were out of stock available again and bringing the shipping of those items up to date... this is an update. If you feel you have an item on this list that remains unresolved, or have anything not covered here that is a problem for you, PLEASE email me at info@spacecraftfilms.com and I will check into your order and get it resolved. We are working very hard to make sure we get your product out to you as quickly as possible, and have made great strides over this summer in doing so. 

Apollo 12, Challenger, X-15, Apollo 1: The shipping on these items, which came back into stock over the summer, is current. If you feel you are missing one of these, please let me know and I'll look into it. If you have a pending order for one of these products, you should have received it by now. Also, these items are in stock for immediate shipment.

Project Mercury, Apollo 11, Apollo 14, Apollo 15, which came back into stock recently: We still have several orders in the shipping que for these products. Our timeframe for having these pending sets all shipped is by mid-November. If you place an order for one of these products now, you can expect that it will be shipped in the latter half of November.

Space Shuttle: STS-1 to STS-41B: We started shipping this set over the summer after we held it for more material. We are working through the ship que fast and expect to have these items completely shipped by the end of November. If you place an order for this product now, you can expect it to ship just after Thanksgiving.

The STS-51-J to STS-28 set is on track for a November release, as is the upgrade to this set. There are a small number of pre-orders for this set, so it will proceed quickly. If you place an order for this set now, you can expect it to ship in early December.

Apollo 11: To the Moon and The Cape are expected to be released in December. I will update status of these on our site and blog as we get close to release. Space Shuttle: First Flights is in final production and I am expecting to release it in first quarter of 2012. There is a good deal of animation left to render and build into the set.

I've had many inquiries about Skylab and other future sets. I'm not going to make any estimate nor open them up to orders until all of the current pending sets are released.

Live From The Moon site...

I don't know that I've ever mentioned or linked to this site from the Spacecraft Films site. The Live From the Moon site was set up when we were producing the documentary as a place to present the project to potential broadcast and cable buyers (we haven't sold it in the US, but it has been shown in several other countries). If you haven't seen Live From the Moon, it is available on DVD and Bluray. The program was produced in HD in several locations around the world and tells the story of how television was returned from the Moon during Apollo - no easy feat with the television technology of the day.

LM Posters still available...

We still have some LM posters available... and we've reformatted the Must Have It All Combo to reflect the new way we are doing the Space Shuttle sets as well as added Live From the Moon and The Astronauts to the combo.

We've been busily shipping Apollo 11 and Apollo 12, and will be shipping Apollo 15 and Space Shuttle orders later this week.
